Gospel Homily for 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Gospel-based homily for this Sunday is entitled Hearing and Understanding God's Word. It is a reflection on the Parable of the Sower in which Jesus compared the different hearers of the word of God to seed that is sown on four different soil. Click on 'Comments' below to share your thoughts on the homily or to read what others have to say about it. Shalom!"

I think you are right to point out that we need to look at how we can improve our understanding of God's Word.

This reminds me of the saying."What part of 'no' don't you understand?"

The implication is that people come to church to listen God's Word presented to them only as fire insurance. "Save me from the 'fires of hell' without my having to do anything but say I am sorry."

That is why the Catholic tradition has used the meditation type of prayer: this is a prayer that requires a response, a resolution.

Today I am resolved to sit with Christ and to ask Him why there is not much fruit in my life and how I can quickly change that.

If there is no fruit there is nothing to bring to Sunday mass?
